Nelson Clinic

I woke to the sound of rain on the windows. I peeked out and saw it wasn't wet, so I decided to go for my morning walk again. I took the same route and it took the same time. Today's playlist was 90s Club Essentials—overnight oats for breakfast and then to my computer.

I only did a few calls before 10:30 am when I had to get up and walk to The Nelson Clinic. Today was the day for the steroid and fluid injection which, I hope, will help my shoulder. There was no receptionist, but the sign said wait. So, I sat staring at the old ledgers in the display cabinet until I started worrying that my appointment had been missed. I was so concerned that I (again) checked I was in the right place. As I was beginning to wonder what to do, I was ushered into the consultation room.

The physiotherapist-doctor went through what was about to happen and the, I assume, obligatory list of risks. Was I OK to go ahead? I said I was not in as much pain, but if it also helped with movement, we should continue. I sat on the bed.

A few moments later, I was lying on my side, sprayed with something that must have been a sterilising fluid, but it was sprayed from a bottle, which made it look like kitchen cleaner. Then came the injection. I expected the injection to be more painful; instead, it was more of an ache than a pain. It was not comfortable, but I was tensed for more pain than came.

When it was all over, the physio tested my movement. I have not to stress it for two days, but I am convinced I have a bit more movement than before. I think the physio was hoping for more; he yanked my arm up shortly after I stood up. I got my arm up further than before, but not all the way. If I get a bit more, I am happy. I didn't realise that I'd be classed as immunosuppressed for the next week.

I had to sit in the waiting area for fifteen minutes in case of side effects. There were none, although I felt a bit light-headed, so PY came to meet me and we walked back home via Costa Coffee and Tesco. I made some lunch with the sardines I bought when I got home.
