Heather clad hills

I wake to glorious sunshine, hang the washing on the line, have breakfast and decide a trip out to Cors Bodgynydd would be a wonderful way to spend the morning.

But when we leave the house, clear blue skies have been replaced by cloud and the wind has definitely got up. My perfect late summer day has vanished and there seems to be no point in driving into the mountains.

Instead, we go to RSPB Conwy. G’s still feeling slightly delicate - he’s been finding it hard to sleep  - so we both take the shorter route. There’s birdsong, but few visible birds, and the water in the lagoons is very low. I watch a very distant heron preening, and spot the poor bald robin previously blipped - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3258745553311239109 . It’s good to see he’s still around, but there’s little improvement in his condition, bless him.

Then as we’re walking round, I catch a view of Conwy Castle with the sun shining on the heather-clad hills behind, and decide this will be my blip today, with my well-groomed heron as an extra.

Back home in the now sunny garden, I continue with my book, plunging myself into the world of ‘In Memoriam’. The trenches of WW1 are hardly an escape, but this beautifully written book takes my mind off what will happen tomorrow.

I pack my case, eat a final piece of toast at 10.00 pm, and go to bed hoping to sleep before the 4.30 alarm….. many thanks for all your good wishes!
