Pig Town
FRIDAY
Today was the qualifying round for the Clwyd Senior Citizens Crown Green Pairs competition, held at Mochdre Park near Conwy.
It was a long day, but the weather couldn’t have been more perfect with clear blue skies and warm sunshine. The camaraderie among the competitors, combined with refreshments, made the day thoroughly enjoyable, despite the intensity of the competition.
I partnered with Arwel, the captain of our Tuesday afternoon team. We played well together, but unfortunately, we fell short in the round that would have secured our spot in next week's finals.
Mochdre is a village with a fascinating history. The name originates from the Welsh words for pig ("moch") and town ("tref"), with an intriguing tale behind it. According to local legend, the village got its name from the theft of a herd of sacred pigs. Mochdre was one of the places where the stolen animals were kept overnight, and it became known as "Pigtown" thereafter.
