Up the lake with two paddles

Oh my goodness! What a day!

As soon as I peeled back the blind on the skylight, I could see nothing but blue skies and immediately knew that an overdue session on the paddle boards was in order.

We came to slowly before resupplying the post-holiday cupboards and then chucking a bunch of stuff in the back of the van we headed off to Coniston. I was surprised to find that the lake levels were the highest I’ve seen in a long time - particularly at the height of “summer” - which meant that there was no shore to launch from!

Fortunately, we found a small sliver of dry land with over hanging trees, which almost gave it a sense of a secret cove (extra) and were able to park Big Blue up right next to it and unload and inflate.

For the next two hours or so we zig zagged up the lake, chatting and splashing and just generally taking in the scenery and enjoying the space that the middle of a lake affords. We made it to a slightly submerged jetty at Brantwood for a deserved snack. I was preparing to take a photo when unfortunately m’boy was cast adrift with both paddle boards. It didn’t help that the wind chose that precise moment to get up and blow him even further out!

To give him his due, he eventually managed to navigate both boards back to the jetty, just as a steamer came in, so we beat a hasty retreat!

Because we had come so far up the lake, we were able to aimlessly drift back to our launching site and head home.

Can’t remember the last time I had so much fun with an inflatable.
