Dianthus and Marmalade Hoverfly

A quiet day round home.  Among the interesting things round the garden this one appealed most.

The Hoverfly is a male Marmalade Hoverfly.  Hoverflies are efficient pollinators so should be welcomed in the garden.  This species favours small yellow flowers, currently there are none in the garden.

The Dianthus, also known as pinks are widespread in Europe and Asia, with only a few species in the !New World".  As the shape of the flowers suggests carnations are a related species.
