Xena in her happy place
We had a very enjoyable birthday dinner at a restaurant in Burnham Market last night, my sea trout was delicious!
This morning Gavin was up very early as he wanted to go sailing. High tide was at 6am so he set off at about 5.30 am but then was home again an hour later. Apparently there was no one else about, which was highly unusual especially on a weekend when it was still busy with people on holiday. He did not feel it was safe to go sailing on his own without no one else on the water, so he watched the sunrise and then came back.
As everyone woke up and drifted into the kitchen we helped ourselves to breakfast, then I started making a coleslaw to go with our BBQ lunch. I have mentioned previously that there is always some debate going on when the youngsters are together and today it was about our new government imposing a 20% vat on private school fees, and whether that was justifiable or not. It got quite heated!
After that we needed some fresh air so went for a walk to Brancaster beach. It was sunny and warmish but the wind was blowing like crazy. Xena had a great time running around on the beach chasing after her ball.
We had a late BBQ for lunch, we had burgers (meat, salmon and vegan) with corn on the cob, cole slaw - and I forgot the sweet potato fries in the freezer! With eight of us in the small house it felt full to bursting and after lunch there was a quite a lot to tidy up before we could depart to go home, so we ended up leaving later than usual. We had a bit of traffic on the roads due to the end of the summer holidays but we got home by 8.15pm.
We have now unpacked, laundry is in the washing machine and we are getting organised for the start of a new week - with schools going back this week it is most definitely the end of the summer and the start of autumn! It was 28C at home today and when we got home the house was so hot, it certainly does not feel like autumn yet.
