Life after Burradoo, NSW

Day 8: Wollomombi Gorge and Ebor Falls

Forty kilometres east of Armidale is the wonderful Wollomombi Gorge and waterfall (see Extra 2). The gorge is spectacular. My third extra might explain why it was so important to our indigenous peoples.

Another 40 kms east are the Upper and Lower Ebor Falls. They are beautiful (see Extras 4 and 5). In the 2019/20 busfires 22,000 hectares of the national park were destroyed. A few weeks later the pandemic arrived. What a time!

It is extraordinary how new life emerges after bushfires (see Extra 6). Our NSW Natonal Parks and Wildlife Service has had to replace all the infrastructure for visitors and we felt proud of the job they have done. The new visitor facilities were opened in May this year (see Extra 7).

Extras:
1. An echidna being camera shy.
2. The spectacular Wollomombi Gorge showing the waterfall.
3. A too-often forgotten part of our indigenous peoples' story.
4. The upper Ebor Falls
5. Playing with my my zoom lens on sports setting.
6. Fresh growth on a blackened gumtree trunk after the 2019/20 busfires.
7. The wonderful new infrastructure built for people to enjoy the views without harming the environment.

It was such a lovely day. I just love being out in the bush.
