Day 8 in England

First day of normal school for all of us today…

Shan woke up in really good spirits and didn’t once mention feeling shy about school. Happily got dressed into her uniform, ate some breakfast - honey hoops seem to be a hit - then into the car to Auntie Bea’s. Still nothing about feeling shy. Dropped her off and instantly felt guilty but deep down know she’s fine and will be fine. Got to school and anxiously waited for a phone call saying she’s a wreck and needs to go home… the phone call never came!!! Picked her up from Heidi…she was mid nap and did not want to leave Heidi…a lot of tears later we were back home and she told us about her day. She was given three stickers! One for being kind, one for sharing and one for being nice. We’re very proud! She played with the sand, Barbie’s and practised writing her numbers, she even went outside THREE TIMES and drove the cars by putting her feet on the ground and walking - she was delighted by this. She also told us how Miss Foster had a Jackson box (Jack-in-the-box) in her special bucket which she showed them when they all sat on the carpet. It made them “all jump and they were frightened.” During dinner she told us how she thinks that tomorrow she’ll feel a teeny bit blue monster (sad) and a big bit green monster (happy). Which is huge progress! After dinner the three of us went for a walk through the woods to daddy’s special place. Daddy gave her piggy backs and they had running races. We talked about trees and how they grow, discovered that myself and daddy are also science teachers which was ‘kinda cool’ and learnt the difference between left and right. Straight up to bed for some stories, she chose How to Catch a Star and I Love You Daddy. I read the former, which she found interesting and shared her thoughts on but the latter was the big winner. Daddy read it so well to her and every time he read ‘I love you’ she would squish him and give him a kiss. By the end of the story she had learnt some of the sentences and was ‘reading’ them with daddy. It brought tears to my eyes. They were both so happy.

Overall we’re all feeling green monster.
