Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Another lovely warm morning in the front garden. This summer, the now infamous '24, it's really worth mentioning.

I watched the report on the Grenfell Fire, seven years after the event, where 72 residents died in the towerblock fire. It went up in flames at great speed, caused by the flammable cladding it had been refurbished in. Many people/ companies/ politicians to blame, including the London Firefighters, who instructed the residents to stay put in their flats and await rescue. But mainly the contractors who used the cheap, combustable cladding, which was not fit for purpose, but must have been legal at the time. Or, ‘just about legal’… And there are many many tower blocks in the country that are covered in this same material.

Archie and I went round the park about midday, and JR took him out again in the afternoon. Sometimes, when we come under this bridge, there is a busker. And there was one today. Great acoustics. And she had a spare £1 to donate. Not sure Archie loved the sound...

Season 4 of Slow Horses begins tonight.
