Easy Access
....a simple, ordinary electrical outlet. This common fixture helps us see after sunset, charge our camera batteries, computers and phones, toast our bread, cook our meals, heat out water, cool and heat our living spaces and that's just in the home. Grocery stores, shops, fire stations, police stations, restaurants, movie theaters.... and, thankfully, hospitals and operating rooms have these small, hardly noticeable rectangles with holes in them dotting the walls ready to deliver energy whenever needed.
We use them every day with ease, perhaps not even thinking about it unless there's a power outage of some kind. Yet for how much of the world is such a convenient and sometimes life saving fixture available? According to Global Issues Anup Shah (January 2013) approximately one fourth of the worlds population or roughly 1.6 billion people do not have electricity.
Light, energy, safety, fun, learning, health, well being easily accessible...the electrical outlet: mundane?
