Broken?

Each time I see this roof I wonder: why did they built the house this way? From a distance it looks like the roof is broken, that it are two houses very close to each other. But it is one house.
Anyway, IMHO worth a blip :)

PS: the guardrail is between the house in the front (only small part of the garage visible here) and a field of a farmer. A bit of protection of the property below, I assume.
