History underfoot

I popped to Waitrose this afternoon to send off a parcel for my daughter using the InPost facility and then got a few bits of shopping in the store itself. My eye was drawn to this sign on the ground outside and I was immediately transported back to Covid lockdown days when we had to queue for admission one at a time. The sign reminds me that NHS workers were celebrated as heroes and allowed to "jump the queue". Of course, it was also in everyone's interest that NHS staff were kept fed and watered and enabled to get back to work as quickly as possible. I had long since left the NHS when Covid struck but did wonder at the time how I would have coped with the management challenges had I still been in charge of the local hospital. For now, I think the sign - and the 2 metre keep your distance sign further along - are historic marks that should be preserved.
