Chicken

The pigeons here are plentiful, both in number and size. So much so, I wonder at their ability to fly, which they do with great gusto and much flapping of wings.

My encounters with them are not limited to the garden. Wherever we drive, there they are on the road, staring me down, waiting until the last split second before taking to flight. Often I've had to brake hard to avoid hitting one, demonstrating that I don't quite have the nerve to play their game.

I have yet to see one squashed, so they know what they're about.
