The Pensioner

The Forth

A reasonable sleep on the ferry’s pods but awakened by their announcements at 6am for breakfast. And then everyone around clattering about as they went off to feast. Not me, curled in a ball with my sleeping mask on.
Off the ferry and onto the 7:35 bus home. Aberdeen was deep in the haar but down the coast was bright sunshine until we hit Dundee and it was no different all the way home after that. But in mid-afternoon it lifted enough to see the boats, so I took myself across to check things over.
And it was finally announced that the body of Jenny Hastings had been found after she went swimming off the beach and disappeared on Tuesday. At that time, even though we were in Orkney it was clear something was going on, with both the yacht club and the neighbours WhatsApp full of messages. I had a look through the club webcam myself as there were three lifeboats and the SAR helicopter involved. It seems like she’d lived with depression for years; pretty tragic stuff. Some flowers have been tied to the end of the breakwater.
