Sunday Papers

A relaxing day, starting off with fetching the papers and going over to look at the flowers on the breakwater.
The big news in the paper was the Grenfell Enquiry findings which had been released during the week. Seven years after the event, and as is so usual with these things, fault was found with just about everyone and everything, which of course then allows people to ride their own hobby horses, from institutional racism to austerity and even an incompetent fire brigade. So I suppose Dominic Lawson, climate sceptic, is as partial as any when he zeroes in on the three cladding firms involved. And fair enough. The report is clear, “[Arconic, Celotex and Kingspan] engaged in deliberate and sustained strategies to manipulate the testing processes, misrepresent test data and mislead the market.” If you read on in the article, you’ll not be surprised to find that these companies have the most prominent, vigorous and gut-turning approaches to corporate and social responsibility. Pat them on the back and up the bonuses. How did we manage before CSR, eh?
