Intrepid Hikers

This is a distant view of a band of intrepid souls who set off on an "Adventure Hike" up some steep hills on the outskirts of the village of Ulukhaktok, which we are visiting today.

I was not one of their merry band, but did enjoy a walk around the settlement with a lovely local lady who pointed out the various buildings of interest, and told us about her life here in the far North.  One of the places we visited was the Community Center, where there were some local handicrafts available for sale.  I bought two pairs of tiny tiny hand-embroidered shoes (ornaments, not for wearing), and was about to buy some pot holders with a design of an Ulu (Inuit chopping knife used by women), but upon turning them over, I was disappointed to find a label stating "Made in China" -- Even way out here!!!!  Needless to say I did not purchase them.

Extras:  One of the local dogs (not friendly at all!), some beautifully dressed local people who greeted us at the landing site for the Zodiacs, and some freshly-caught Arctic Char on offer at the shoreline ... I declined!
