What the eye doesn't see
I was trying to gather elderberries; looking down I could only barely make out the shieldbug camouflaged on a yacon leaf - green on green, a perfect match.
But when I enlarged the image I discovered that the bug was speckled with tiny black dots and the leaf was covered in yellow spots.
Yacon is a South American tuber.
Hedgerow jelly coming soon.
