THE CIVIC CENTRE, NEWCASTLE ON TYNE
I had a trip to Newcastle this afternoon. First stop was Superdug where I dropped off a carrier bag full of blister packs for recycling. Then I headed to The Civic Centre.
The Wide Wednesday challenge is My village/town/city. Ive already blipped quite a few buildings In Newcastle especially the old ones so I decided to blip something newer today. Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting.
The Civic Centre is the main administrative centre for Newcastle City Council .The Grade II listed building was completed in 1967 and officially opened by King Olav V of Norway on the 14th November 1968. The sculpture on the far wall is called River God Tyne. The prominent carillon bell tower is topped with seahorses. ( See both of these close up in my Extra ). The Civic Centre was visited by the 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter in 1977. He delivered a speech famously containing the Geordie phrase "Howay the lads!"
After getting my blip shots I went to Tesco for some food shopping and then took a short cut through the Grainger Indoor Market to get my bus home. I spotted some greengages on one of the stalls and I bought some. Its ages since I've seen any. Had some this evening - they were ripe and sweet. Delicious.
As you can see from my photos we had lovely blue sky today. However it was rather chilly and breezy and there were a few spots of rain now and then.
