The three of us were graduate theatre students in the 80s. The two of them fell in love. We all became teachers of theatre and spent the rest of our working lives in rehearsals, in classrooms and backstage, doing research on performance, or marking papers. It used up every breath, every idea, every scrap of energy we ever had, and it did no harm. Now we are old and look back in awe and wonder.

Sue and I visited them in 2022. She joined us this morning for tea and talk at Steven Smith's Tea. Then she went home to care for Eliana and we went to Powell's, to the Chinese Garden, via one of the Coraline Cats, and back to my place. Indian dinner and more talk of the old days, the days between, and the now. Tomorrow, more of the same and then they fly out.
