Like father, like son...
Father and son, looking perfectly normal on a walk to Black Rock today. The tide goes out so far here that it feels like you could walk all the way over the Forth and be in Leith for tea.
Obviously, that's not the case. Black Rock is pretty much as far as you can walk out so that's where we went. Bry packed a picnic, we spotted hunners of jelly fish and Arlo spent quite a lot of time in his pants. Exactly how it should be on the hottest day of the year!
This has been a great summer so far, the weather aside, it's just been great watching the kids get more and more settled in a lovely new town. We're finding our feet slowly but surely and it's only one week to go till we get the keys to the house and we can move (Yes, AGAIN) and make it our proper home.
I will really miss this flat - it's been the perfect transition from life in Edinburgh to life in Burntisland. Big, lovely rooms with views out of every window - either sky or hill or sea. You can't go wrong with that. I'll miss all of that, and I'll miss our nice neighbours downstairs (shocking news, people. Downstairs neighbours don't have to be hideous old punks with no nice qualities whatsoever). I'll even miss the crazy courtyard that we hang our washing in and the kids play a mean game of hide and seek in.
I will not miss carpeted flooring (especially in this heat. Ooh me feet cannae take it), I will not miss mahoosive windows that don't open properly. I will not miss the fireplace in the livingroom and I will not miss the feeling of knowing that no matter what, this is not home.
This year has been the Year of Change. I knew a lot of it would be about change - Arlo starting school and the like, but I really didn't contemplate just this much. New town, new house, new nurseries for both kids, new work routines (my work hours increased to 4 days), new office to work in and we're about to go through a fair bit of decorating / DIY torture only to move again and get settled, but I love the fact that the universe gave us a summer so we could be glad we moved to the beach and the fact that we'll be in our new house and it will hopefully look like our home in time for Christmas.
So, THANKS UNIVERSE - you know what? You're alright!
