I Am Here…

…full length on the sofa reading my latest book club book, afternoon sun streaming in through the window.

My cleaners were here this morning, and I guiltily apologised for not having reduced the number of boxes hindering them since they last came a fortnight ago. I know what is in all of the boxes, and I can’t unpack any more of them until I’ve emptied the remaining wardrobes and drawers of the rest of my late parents’ personal effects. These are things which aren’t good enough to go to charity, are of no practical use to me, but that make me feel disrespectful throwing them away, as if I’m throwing Mum and Dad away with them. Trying to tackle this task makes me feel bereft and miserable, but I’m also really fed up with living amongst stacks of removal boxes.

So I’ve put it off until tomorrow (again), and the book is making me chuckle out loud and cheering me up. Highly recommended, as are David Nicholls’ other books that I’ve read - ‘Us’ and ‘One Day’.
