Downy Woodpecker

A very early walk with a friend then a trip for dad for the eye doctor as he was having trouble seeing, small eye infection no change to his glasses.  The doctor said something about how good he was doing for his age and dad informed him he was planning on another 6 years!  News to me.  

In the afternoon I spent time outside reading and waiting for an interesting bird to show up.  I made an unusual discovery out on the back lower deck.  I have had to continue to clean up little droppings on the deck and was thinking I had a mouse problem.  I looked up today between the decking on the upper deck and detected a new resident.  I have included a photo in the Extra Photos for you to see,  I had to really lighten it as it was very dark up in there.

The fires in Central Oregon are still very bad, and my friend K and I were planning to spend Monday through Friday next week over there.  We had rented a cabin to celebrate our sort of milestone birthdays this year.  (mine is still a month off) The air quality is in the unhealthy range and the lakes we were planning to kayak and hike around are located where the fires are, so we regrouped this afternoon.  We were able to cancel the cabin and they will refund our money.  My niece has a vacation home on the Oregon Coast in Newport so that will be our new destination!
