The Sunny Side

CocoNene

Shawn and I rarely agree on art, but we can both agree on CocoNene! We were pleasantly surprised to find this CocoNene at the International Marketplace in Waikiki. The International Marketplace used to be so different - unfortunately it doesn't have the magic that it used to. The small shops are gone. Rolex, Target, and Tesla have moved in.

Today was a day of shopping. We first went to the Aloha Stadium Flea Market, where most of the former vendors at the International Marketplace have moved to. Lots of small businesses, handmade wares and souvenirs. Unfortunately, I think it's hard to find authentic items now adays. We found beautiful Hawaiian quilts but I doubt that they are handmade in the traditional way. Nonetheless, we loved them and purchased one for Mimi's crib.

My feet have been dying in the only sandals that I brought with me. Add to that, I hurt my back on the second day of being here, so my first order of business in Waikiki was to get a new pair of sandals. I got my first pair of Crocs and I am in love! The style is not the classic Croc; they are proper sandals so they're great.

We didn't stay too long. Waikiki wasn't really our vibe. Regrettably, we parked the car too far at Ala Moana, so we didn't make it all the way across the promenade as I had hoped. We made it as far as the International Marketplace before calling it quits. Shawn got an Uber back to our car and picked us up.
