Speckled Bonanza

A day of occasional showers giving way to periods of sunshine.
I visited Kinghorn Loch again this afternoon.
In half a mile of woodland track I saw ten of these speckled wood butterflies, Pararge aegeria, all in pristine condition so I suspect a local brood hatching.  This one is using a nettle leaf as a look-out post.

Speckled woods have several broods in a year and they are staggered so that adults can be seen from early spring to late autumn.  They should still be around for another 4 to 6 weeks depending on the weather.
