Misty Sunrise
The weather is turning today and it's supposed to rain a little tonight. I liked the way the sun was trying to break through the mist on the ridge and took a picture. It's a little hard to tell what is happening in the shot, but I liked the effect. We both wish somebody would cut down the dead trees, but it won't happen and we are getting used to them. I've always said you can get used to almost anything....
I cannot break my habit of reading the Sunday papers. I know I have to remind myself constantly that we live in a bubble, but I really feel like the campaign of joy vs. hate is beginning to turn toward joy. The eating cats and dogs story and the fact that Trump and Vance are doubling down on this ludicrous notion, denied by the city manager and the mayor of the town in question, seems to be the last straw for some old line Republicans. Especially when the bald racism is exposing the town to bomb threats and school closures. I don't think it will influence younger voters who don't even know who Dick Cheney is, but we do. We thought he was evil personified for bringing us into the the Iraq war, and I'm not sure I'm very excited about his defection to the Democrats, but every vote counts....
I deadheaded our stand of rudbeckias which were growing forward over the wall, and brought the outdoor pillows inside, but I'm sure I forgot some....I always do. John cleaned out our fountain pond and restored the fountain to normal function. Algae and leaves clog the filter after awhile and it has to be cleaned out. We took out the grevillea that was growing out of control under the kitchen window. I was sad to see it go, but Olivier, the resident hummingbird has already found other satisfactory plants to visit. I can see him outside the bedroom window on the pomegranate plant instead of rising up out of the grevillea. I can also now see all the birds that visit the fountain, a view that I used to enjoy which had become obscured by the unruly grevillea.
I finished up the first half of the Klee quilt, not the way I usually construct a quilt but I don't usually design them as I go either. Now it's almost time for Sunday supper at Jim and Dana's.
