A Rough Ride
Today we made our transit through the Bering Strait on our way to Nome -- this notorious stretch of water is famous for being rough with strong currents and big waves, and it did not disappoint.
All day and almost all night we had very big waves which made the ship roll like a drunken hippo. Some poor people who had a cabin on Deck 4 had their window blown out by a rogue wave, and seawater came pouring in! The people I spoke to who had a cabin next door said that whenever the ship rolled to starboard, all they could see through their window was green water! Luckily we are on Deck 7, and all we had to cope with was the motion.
This is a picture of the weather app on Mr. W's phone, showing where we are and what the wind and waves are doing.
Later in the evening, we passed Little Diomede Island -- an American outpost right next door to Russia. It looked very remote and bleak!
