Man of La Mancha
This is the memorial to Cervantes, arguably Spain's most famous author, known principally for his story of Don Quixote, the Man of La Mancha. It was published in two parts in 1605 and 1615 which makes Cervantes a near contemporary of Shakespeare. Like Shakespeare, his work has influenced our language with the phrase "tilting at windmills" and the idea that a dreamer or idealist might be rather "quixotic". Cervantes looks down from his position on the memorial on Don Quixote and his faithful manservant, Sancho Panza. I found the expressions on their faces particularly characterful. The extra is of a vintage carousel that we came across nearby. We're now at the airport waiting for a jet plane again, as the flight has been delayed!
