Bend It Like Brooklyn Bridge Park

We were up early to catch an early train back from Philadelphia to New York, in time for breakfast... pancakes, syrup and bacon, yum - we both had the same. Subway down to One World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial Pools which we visited back in 2014, but still just as moving. The new tower was open for visitors this time so we went up for some fabulous views.

There's always so much to do in NYC and time always runs out, but we've never been to Brooklyn before so that was our next destination. After an early dinner and a walk about downtown we headed for Brooklyn Bridge Park which has views across to Manhattan right up to the bridge There was so much going on, piers with football/soccer games, basketball, pickleball (!) and loads of people enjoying time with their families, barbecues... this was at 7pm on a Sunday evening with a glorious sunset. Ms H and I spent a lot of time comparing this with back home, it was just lovely.

At the end of the park we had some ice cream underneath Brooklyn Bridge - I am still amused after finding out this area is known as Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). We then walked back to Brooklyn where we could easily get up onto the bridge and walked back across - it too was hoaching, The views back to Manhattan were amazing... that classic high rise skyscraper outlines, with office lights flickering away. Then it was time to pick up our luggage and head out to JFK for home.

That was a 48 hour visit plus 24 hours travelling there and back, on paper all quite excessive... but the free flight was there, this was when Ms H had 3 days free and Twenty One Pilots happened to be playing in Philly... who knows where we'd have gone had the tour been different We both had a fab time, Brookyln Park was a highlight and as usual, returning from the US late in the evening means an opportunity to blip is lost... so need to catch up :-)
