Mount Stuart

Another day when the choice of a single photo is not an easy one! I might add an extra or two later on.

One of the reasons why I came to Bute is that, some time ago, Chris told me about his visit to Mount Stuart and how every detail (doorknobs, light switches) had been designed with care. I told him that 2024 was the year I would see it for myself.

Maria also inspired me by recounting her walk of the West Island Way on Bute. We talked about St Blane’s Chapel at the south end of the island and I wondered if I could do all this in one day without a car. The good news is that it is entirely possible to get around Bute by bus pass and foot - but I am glad that I had a proper breakfast before I set out!

St Blane’s was off the beaten track - 2 hilly miles there and 2 hilly miles back. I would have loved to spend some quiet time there but just glad I made the effort. Mount Stuart defies description so I won’t even try. I have blipped the beautiful white marble chapel with ruby red lantern, and I will add an extra of the marble hall. So many treasures contained therein…

After walking a mile from the house to the bus stop, I was almost done in, so when a couple of elderly ladies stopped and offered me a lift, I jumped right in. They told me they were sisters, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, but everyone was nice to them on Bute and they were nice to everyone too. That’s the way to do it.
