The Tale of the Butterfly Thief
I had just gotten off my bike half-way up Tow Hill to check out the milkweed patch, when I saw something shiny and green practically GLOWING on a plant that was brown and dry and desiccated. It was a monarch chrysalis!
Fresh from the disappointment of a chrysalis of our own that went bad, that I had to terminate yesterday, I saw it as a sign of hope. Another chance at a brand new butterfly!
So I got out my handy Boker picnic set and I cut the top off the plant, grabbed it, and got back on my bike. I rode down Tow Hill with the plant in my right hand, going as slowly as I could, with the chrysalis flapping in the wind. The butterfly's first and perhaps only bike ride! LOL!
The chrysalis is now installed in the pot of osteospermum in the yard cart that had the good chrysalis under it, that eclosed last week while we were gone. I think of it as a lucky yard cart.
I tucked the chrysalis in behind some green leaves to hide it from predators. There is a decorative butterfly stake in that pot to encourage it. So we have been given another chance!
I can see WINGS! We should have a new butterfly soon!
My soundtrack song is Uriah Heep, with Stealin'.
Husband: But you're not a thief. You're simply a . . . relocator.
