New Forest Wildlife Park (Friday 13th Sept 2024)
I met up with my brother, the Spotlight Kid, on our fourth attempt to be here. Archie's failed battery, the electrician arriving to fix my power supply and a bad weather forecast had caused the cancellations, but on this day there were no such impediments and the weather was just right. It was five years to the day since our last visit.
We began with their covered section. It included several kinds of otters, Ferrets, polecats, a red fox and harvest mice (first Extra), and then we attended the Wolf Talk, during which their pair of Grey Wolves came to be fed (Wolf in second Extra with Robin for scale). The third Extra shows a group of Mouflons (wild sheep) and the fourth shows one of two Northern Lynx, a sub-group of the Eurasian Lynx, taken from a vast distance with my super-zoom set at 800mm. Their collection of otters include the giant American River Otters, Smooth Skinned Otters (also pretty big), Eurasian Otters and Asian Short-Clawed Otters as shown in my blip. We also saw Red Deer, Boars and Bison; a successful afternoon complete with picnic and Costa coffee. If it wasn't a four hour plus round trip I'd probably visit more often. I detoured to C.'s for a break on the drive back. I used Archie as it was beyond Buzz's miles range.
