History Wardrobe- Lucy Adlington.
I went to another History Wardrobe event this evening. Lucy Adlington is a clothing historian who gives talks and has written books. Her book 'The tailors of Auschwitz ' is a bestseller. Today's talk focused on the regency period and the clothes people wore in their leisure time. Lucy is dressed in that period and the cream dress is an original from about 1810 and was used to go dancing. Think Mansfield Park, Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austin. The fabric is silk brocade and the dress would have been very expensive. The hem of the dress is embellished with motifs that are sewn on but not all the way round them making them stand out from the base fabric. The hem is asymmetrical and filled with horsehair to provide weight and a rounded edge.
Details on the dress are in extras as is a replica of Mr D'Arcy's shirt worn by Colin Firth. The original sold at auction for over 20 thousand pounds.
