Friday: Flag-Raising
This morning was spent at the annual government briefing, setting out everything they have achieved in the last year. This was followed by a lunch with colleagues visiting from elsewhere for Independence Day.
Late afternoon I headed back up to Belize City.. We (as in my driver and I) gave our junior housekeeper’s 9 year old daughter, Holly, a lift up, depositing her safely with her grandparents. She was no trouble in the car, spending most of the time on her tablet.
This evening was marked by a reception, followed by the midnight flag-raising ceremony, marking 43 years of Belizean independence. The smoke is actually from the 21-gun salute.
I am pleased to report that, unlike yesterday, I managed not to attach myself to any marching bands.
