Regal ...
... Monarch Butterfly.
We had another fantastic day! No baseball game today ... but we did attend a great program at Jacobsburg State Park. It was called "Tagging Monarchs for Adults." And that's what we did!
By the time we arrived the gentleman that was leading the program had already netted at least one monarch so he could show us how the tagging is done. After we tagged this one we all drove to another part of the park that has a field of Maximillian sunflowers grown for the monarchs that migrate through here this time of year. Unfortunately, there weren't that many monarch butterflies but we still had fun. Several people in the group netted some monarchs and other butterflies so we could all see and learn more about the other species. It was all very fascinating. While you can't necessarily "follow" the monarch by this tag number ... you can check the website periodically to see if anyone has seen the tag and registered the find. I plan on doing so. The website is MWTAG.org.
After finishing the butterfly tagging program shortly before noon we took the picnic lunch we had packed to Ballas Park to eat. And whilst there we had lovely walk before returning home.
And as luck would have it ... when we returned home we had one of our own monarch butterflies emerge in our nursery. He was more than ready to be sent on his way when we released him. Although, he did hang out on the dahlia for a little while before doing so.
Backblipped: September 21 ... and more to come.
