Quirky

I have been filling some gaps in the 52 blocks challenge - this is number 35. I do not like pictorial but the prompt was Quirky Bird so I went with it.

My Quirky Bird.

I am just waiting for a live online lecture on one of the strangest books I have ever read - The Vet’s Daughter by Barbara Comyns, first published in 1959.

And of course, as some Blippers eventually worked out from the clues, the rather stylish but strange object of yesterday’s blip is a guide for slicing bread. Your loaf lays on the base and your knife slides through the slots - and you have an even slice. The reason Gordon is so pleased with it is that he makes almost all of our bread and most of it in the bread maker and the loaves that emerge are very difficult to cut into nice even slices for toast or sandwiches. I eat very little bread but when I come to cut a piece for toast it is often impossible because of the angle the loaf has become. So there you are not everyone would find it useful, we find it perfect. And it is a nice piece of equipment in itself.
