Life is like a river

My view at mealtimes

I usually sit at the same place at the dining table when having a meal at home.  Maybe that's what most people do, I don't know.

But most days of the year this is a very dull and uneventful view to a depressingly grey door and grey window and grey glass-railing. This apartment across from ours is a holiday-home for people living in Reykjavík and there will go weeks and sometimes even months between their visits to Akureyri.
When we moved into our new home 5 years ago I had envisioned a lively community with many families living here at the same time; children and adults and seniors and pets and everything that belongs to a varied family life.
But the reality has been altogether different.  There are 12 apartments in our house and only 5 have been lived in by permanent or long term residents (of which 3 have the owners living here, the other 2 have been rental apartments for most of the time. The rest is, as I said, holiday-homes for people living in Reykjavík).

Feels like something important is missing.
