New life

I spotted this very young oak tree growing from a crevice in the rotting remains of a birch trunk. The dead birch tree was surrounded by oaks so I presume that not too long ago, maybe autumn 2022 or 23, an acorn fell into a convenient crack in the birch. It will be interesting to see how that develops, or maybe it will get eaten by a hungry deer.
Bertie was taking Nick and I for a walk when I snapped this blip. We are on the mainland heading towards Nick’s first fishing adventure of the year on a tributary of the River Spey, starting on Thursday, so we are travelling at a leisurely pace, stopping off where we fancy, no definite plan.
