Choo Choo
The morning began with a lovely lie in, so you could say that the morning did not begin, although it did eventually with a couple of cuppas and a bowl of porridge.
The weather looked much better than forecast so we decided to take a ride down the coast to Ravenglass for a nosey at the narrowgauge railway they have which is filled with ⅓ scale steam locomotives very much related to those we saw in Kent earlier in the year.
Anyway, a 'look' wasn't enough so we decided to take a ride on these ones upto the head of the line at Dalegarth and back. It was an amazing experience chugging along at no more than 20mph with the lake district peaks in the background. We had a nosey around Dalegarth For Boot Station before boarding for the return journey, this time in an open carriage. As the collage depicts we put our feet up and also snapped another train coming the other way at a passing point.
After nosying around Ravenglass Station, including their maintenance shed, we mounted the fillies again to ride home the long way, looping further south with views of the Isle Of Man out to sea, before heading back inland to head past Lake Coniston towards Ambleside.
We encountered two dangerous idiots in their cars along here. The first racing to a forked junction towards our path with no intention of stopping got a blast of the horn to wake them up. The second popped around a blind corner and gave Biscuits abs a work out - just as well we weren't riding as fast as they were...eeek.
Passing through Ambleside (return visit required to see the house Ms Arell pointed out as we passed) and continuing north on the A591, your gal here took a wrong turn and we ended up in the village of Grasmere. Not a bad diversion as it's gorgeous and a holler over the Cardo to pull over meant I could consult the map whilst bestie investigated a K6 telephone box that turned out to be from our favourite Lion Foundry.
Back on track, our pretty much rain free day was celebrated with a pour down for the last 5 minutes riding back to the cottage but we could handle that. A lazy evening was then enjoyed with pasta, cake, (more) cuppas and some Classic Praha on the internet radio :-)
