A Winning Finish

TUESDAY

Following a wet weekend, I took advantage of the dry morning and headed out for a run from home, which took me down almost to the river, through Waen, up the lower part of Rhuallt Hill, and then back past St Beuno’s to Tremeirchion. I covered 9.3 km in 55 minutes with an elevation gain of nearly 150m.

After a shower and a bite to eat, I then headed down to Rhuddlan Bowling Club for our last match of the 2024 season. It's hard to believe the season has flown by so quickly! The team finished in style with seven winners out of ten, plus two points for the aggregate score.

We had expected a tough match as our opponents, Abergele, were in the running for promotion. I played at number nine and by the time my turn came round the heavens had opened. Fortunately the rain soon abated. After a bit of a shaky start, I pulled ahead and  won my  game comfortably, 21-8—my fourteenth consecutive win, which puts me at the top of the team averages and in the top ten in the division.

This evening, the whole team celebrated the season’s end with drinks and dinner at The Morfa restaurant in Rhuddlan. We had a fantastic time.

To compensate, a few of us have  taken out "winter membership" at East Parade Bowling Club in Rhyl, so we can keep on bowling (in the rain) and socialising throughout the autumn months.
