Krka National Park
The reason we went to stay in Šibenik (apart from it being a lovely town to stay in, was the close proximity to the Krka National Park and to walk a small part of it to see the glorious Skradinski buk waterfalls..
We were up early and first down for breakfast just after 7. The breakfasts here are not be be rushed. This is a breakfast experience. You start with a plate of mixed fruit platter on your table along with croissants and four types of bread rolls . There are four different types of jams, something disgusting called liver spread and equally as disgusting turkey spread. A little jar of Nutella and something spready white cheese. Choice of coffee is brought to table.
Then when having some of this (only the croissant) the menu is brought with four pages of choices! You could eat everything on the menu if you wanted and were a glutton. We chose the home made granola which came with a jug of runny yogurt which we love. I had next a mushroom omelette and S had eggs Benedict. I could have had the crepe for a pudding breakfast but no, was totally stuffed. It was delicious and we had this sitting out overlooking g the bay.
We decided to get an Uber from the hotel to the Park for opening time at 9am. The driver was from Zagreb and here for the summer but going back to Zagreb for the end of the season next week. We had to laugh when he mentioned that the weather wasn’t as good…. Told him that this is marvellous for us (23) and like a GOOD Scottish summer day.
He dropped us at the park and went to reception for the park admission. A hefty 40 euros each and they average 8k visitors a day we were told by a worker there later on. Wow!
The bus took us to the start of the walk which was all on boardwalks through stunning woodlands carpeted in areas with pink cyclamen. Stunning. There weren’t many people at this time so was very peaceful walking through the variety of trees, ponds with lots of fish and little mini waterfalls (compared to the big lads later). Lots of loud noises from the tumbling powerful water coming down the hillside.
We eventually got the the main ones (here). This is a small portion of it there is no way a photograph can adequately capture the beauty . Also the noise.
I was really captivated by the beauty. Everything about this visit was fabulous. Will never forget this.
We waited on the bus to take us back up to the main car park/ reception area and decided to take the service bus back, only 2€ and the cheeriest bus driver . In fact all the Croatians we have met have been so friendly and chatty.
We got dropped off near the fortress stop we were at yesterday as it’s a short walk through the narrow street to our hotel.
Had a cuppa and sat out on the terrace . It was quite warm I must say glad we went early to the park.
After this we walked in the other direction and up to a viewpoint where we could see all of Sibenik waterfront. Beautiful view.
Went for an early tea - not much just a salad and then ice cream and a walk then back to the room as yes, you’ve guessed it, ‘done in’ lol
