Mixed Fortunes
It was a day of mixed fortunes on the weather front.
I walked to the slip in sunshine- blue sky and white fluffy clouds but aware that there were black clouds hovering in the vicinity. Two of us strode into the water just as a shower passed over. I blipped the rainbow before it became a double rainbow arching over the sky to the west. We stayed in the water long enough for the rain to stop and then managed to get our clothes on and into my Selkie Buddy’s car before a second torrent of rain and hail battered the windscreen and blotted out the landscape. We were lucky.
I made it into a very chilly Kirkwall later with the North wind so cold that I was forced into a charity shop to buy a bunnet- as if I don’t have enough of them at home in Edinburgh.
There have been a few showers since but the sun has been out in between.
I am staying in the dry until this evening when I go back to Kirkwall to see a screening of the Outrun before the film, shot in Orkney, is released to the public.
As I write this blog, I see the Hamnavoe ferry coming in to port a different way, having avoided Hoy Sound. It must be wild out there.
