Pictures At An Exhibition

Last day of hols today - boo! As it happened though, it’s been grey, overcast and showery for most of the day, so probably a good job we had nothing planned.
We did pop down into Sorrento for one last time, and thought we’d have a bit more culture by visiting an exhibition of the works of the artist Antonio Ligabue which was here for three months. I’d never heard of him - or been aware of any of his art - but Mrs C knew of a couple of his pieces. The exhibition was very informative and there were many paintings and several sculptures on display.
It seems he had a very troubled childhood and this affected how he portrayed things in later life. If I said he made Salvador Dali look normal and mainstream, that might give you some idea. We probably weren’t allowed to take photos, but I snatched this one under the guise of scanning the QR code for the audio guide! Included in the admission cost was entry to the permanent exhibition of 19th Century carillons, which were fascinating to look at and, in some cases, listen to. The attendant set several of them off as we walked around, delighting a group of Americans when the “Stars and Stripes” sprang forth from one as they passed it. A quick pit stop after that to try a couple of the lemon sorbets - served in a hollowed out lemon - that are a bit of a local speciality. Absolutely delicious and refreshing which set us up for a last look around the town (and some last minute retail therapy!) before heading back to the hotel to start packing.
We will treat ourselves to one more drink on the terrace after dinner, as it’s highly unlikely we’ll be able to do that back in the U.K. for at least the next six months or so!
