Scarecrow Festival

The annual Scarecrow Festival in Mahone Bay started this weekend. Today was the only day that I could go, and fortunately the weather cooperated. I arrived around 10 am and stayed till 11:30 am.

This festival almost did not come back after covid. It is run by volunteers and many of them were getting older and did not want to continue. Some of the displays were sold to the various businesses so they could use them as part of their fall display. Now there are new volunteers who have taken it over and most of the old displays have been retired. There are a lot of new ones this year.

The main photo is a new display, and it is setup outside of the public washroom. The collages show a few of the other displays around town.

I stopped at a couple of garden centers to pick up a few more plants for customers. One of them had 40% off all perennials so I bought several to use for one customer. They have some hostas planted on a shady bank in the front, but they have deer. I am going to remove the hostas and plant things that the deer are not supposed to like.

Houseplants were also on sale and one table was 90% off. I bought a tropical hibiscus, regular $49.99 for $5. It has some buds on it, and I hope it is the bright red that shows on the tag.
