Common Enchantments

Blueberry cobbler

Baked on the grill. The blueberries and one package of strawberries I had in the freezer were really soft so I decided to use them up. I made the recipe and set it on the shelf in the grill. Put the gas on low heat and “baked” it about 20 minutes. It was good!

We finally heard from Tate today and he is fine. He could not get out of his driveway until the creek water level went down. He was on his way to town to get a hot meal and food to take back home. He used up all the frozen food he had by cooking on his grill. Even pizza. He has no power or cell phone service. Water is fine as he has a spring fed water system. He talked with some neighbors who had gotten out and they said it could be two months before he gets power and internet back. He works from home so he will have to figure that out when he talks with his supervisor. He sent photos to us of his yard where the creek overflowed. The water is normally 10 feet below his bridge and the bridge was completely covered by several feet of water. Plus he had no idea about the other parts of Western North Carolina where flooding was worse.

I found a Facebook page for Ashe County where Tate lives and the photos are so heartbreaking. Mountain people are so resilient and will came out of this but the land will not be the same.

We are still without power. My girl Dee texted that her power came on around 5:30. She is in a different area than me. Maybe tomorrow. A cold shower and hair wash felt really great. We managed to get more gas for the generator so are prepared.

It was a really nice day weather-wise. I sat outside reading for a long while. I also had a long walk early while it was cool.

A good day! Even without electricity and internet.
