The Derry Girls
The last day of our break.
As a lover of the shipping forecast I was keen to visit Malin Head in Donegal so we drove there in the morning. It’s the most northerly point on Ireland with a dramatic coastline, fine views and a decent pub. In the days of mass emigration from Ireland families used to gather on the headland to watch their relatives leaving for America.
In the afternoon we drove to Derry. There’s a good walk around the town wall and a very impressive guildhall. It’s a town with a very turbulent and tragic past but on a more positive note it’s home to the Derry Girls who are immortalised in this terrific piece of street art.
