A day in the life

Explorations

About this time of year I usually show what's going on in the archeological world on Öland. The institution at the university has been granted some millions to make it possible to excavate many of the fortresses from the iron//bronze age around 400 AD. The excavations will go on for eight years and will increase the knowledge about social life here during that period. Personally I find it very interesting and went on a guided tour where we was shown how far they reached in finding out what went on in this fortress back then. It will be a long time before we get some conclusions, you'll be informed.

During the trip I was so close to the southern tip of the island, that I wanted to see the Onion-artwork, a tradition that is ten years old this year. One artist creates this piece of art made of thousands of onions, an important crop of the island, and here is the result (first extra). The farm also creates a maize maze, quite a long labyrinth in the maize-field where it's easy to get lost. They put a lot of artworks in there to make it easier to find out at least where you was before, one of my favourites was this Osprey (second extra), hope you can see it. Here's the entrance, I was in there for half an hour and didn't see all of the artworka (third extra). A fun and informative day.
