The balanced economy
I walked to the town centre first thing this morning to register dad’s death at the registry office.
I passed the tiled mural on the side of the former Co-op House on the way (opening in 1958 the Co-op was the first major store to open in the new Town Centre). Designed by Gyula Bajó and commissioned by the Cooperative Wholesale Society it represents the four pillars of a balanced economy - industry, commerce, transport and agriculture. How balanced the economy is sixty six years later and whether it even matters is a question worthy of a dissertation at the very least. I love the mural’s 1950’s vibe. It’s listed grade 2.
I had thought that I wouldn’t find a subject to fit today’s mono Monday theme of Sound. But returning to dad’s house there was a lot of banging going on next door. I introduced myself to the neighbour fixing a pitch roof over the back door entrance (extra).
