That Will Do!

Herbie

We struck lucky today, finding that the café in our old church, Central Hall, was open so went in for soup and coffee.

The interesting thing is that it is held in the entire auditorium, where, when we worshipped there, it was filled with tip-up cinema-type seats. There have been several other changes in the building and, after lunch, we were able to wander round and take lots of photos by way of reminiscence (especially of the stained glass windows) and to note the improvements.

One major difference is the large screen which hangs in front of the organ pipes; I peeped behind and was delighted to find our wee cherub still up there with his trumpets. His name was coined in a children's address by a minister visiting from the USA (I don't recall his name but he was popular), who had picked him out as having a hearing impediment, requiring the use of two ear-trumpets for each ear, thus calling him 'Herbie, the hard of hearing herald'. It was nice to see him again.

We found the volunteer staff very welcoming and I think we'll be back before too long.
