Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Kris

I am not a huge one for paying tribute to departed cultural icons here in blip world, but the combination of being chained to my desk for my final deadline push (met and submitted) and a day of torrential rain had me looking around for something.

I probably first became aware of Kris Kristofferson as an actor: Pat Garrett and …Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia being well within my wheelhouse of cult westerns through my late teens and twenties. It took me longer to get into his music, he was after all a songwriter more than a singer, but age and life experience has helped me appreciate his gruff, deep, laid back vibes. And being unfashionable, he’s a stalwart of the vinyl bargain bins.

For a more thorough account of his life you can see the Guardian obituary. If you have access to BBC Sounds, Ralph McLean (Radio Ulster) has been quick off the mark with a comprehensive two hour tribute show.

Farewell Kris.
