A bus outing!

It’s October and it was suitably mizzly this morning but we’ve had nothing like the rain reported from further north at home and it soon stopped.

We said farewells to the family for the day as they all went off to work, school and pre school and then walked down into Larkhall. We were there just 5 minutes before the bus was due so we decided to take it. This bus goes along a route above Bath to descend down Landsdowne Road where John works. We wanted to drop something in for him at his studio so that suited us. This also meant we started at the top of the city centre so we could call in at Waterstones on our way down as I had a book to collect.

It was fairly quiet at this time for Bath city centre so we went to M&S for a free coffee. I usually avoid the cafe as it’s always heaving and there was a long queue when we left. 
Made our way to the bus station to start our mini adventure to Corsham! 
Like two kids we sat on the front seats upstairs. We could see them re painting the road signs and markings on the cycling route in Alice Park that I showed in yesterday’s blip and further  along we could see the famous Box railway tunnel as we passed through Box.

Not much further and we were in the lovely Wiltshire town of Corsham. We have driven through as it is quite near Lacock but not stopped to look around before. 
( Grace lives in Bath and Northeast Somerset but the borders of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire are very close)

A lovely old High Street with some unusually orange coloured buildings. We had a good wander up and down before finding a cafe hidden up some stairs for lunch. Obviously a popular one with locals, it was quite busy and very reasonable. 
We walked back along the High Street to take look at the church and Corsham Court. The court was closed but we had a nice look around the church. The door was being guarded by a peacock but he moved off when we went in. There was a lovely trail for children of little knitted mice illustrating some of the activities of the church - see second extra by the font the mice are waiting to have their baby baptised.

Back at the High Street there were two peacocks just wandering along the pavements at either side of the road, no wonder the town sign features them.

A most enjoyable few hours, we found a lovely shop, the same as one we’d visited in Bradford on Avon back in July. I treat myself to some new sunglasses with 100% UV protection which I’ve been advised to have by my optician.

Bus back to Bailbrook and a cuppa before some veg prep for tea. Grace had been home but was out again for Eda’s parents evening. She’s now gone to pick her up from Explorers which is her after school club.

A good day out in and around Bath with benign weather, a bit of brightness and dry after the early drizzle.
